We can rebuild it, my Dad has an awesome set of tools!

More repairs related to the front of the car being hit back in 1968.  Not only was the radiator core support damaged, but the connecting plate that ties the fender apron to the cowl was damaged as well.  This plate acts as a crumple zone during the crash and had a small hole below it that was discovered during the repair. In the top photo, the rusty hole to the left of the drilled out tack welds was the culprit.  In a rainstorm, water would come down the windshield, through the small hole under this plate, behind the firewall insulation and carpet, then collect on the floorpans.  Over many years, this lead to the floorpans and toe boards rusting out.

Something seems to be missing...

Notice anything different? My bodyman has started work on the little fastback!  The front radiator core support was a Ford replacement part code A 68 (which stand for April, 1968). The car was not even three years old and it was involved in fender bender!  Darn those race car drivers, can't they keep it between the ditches? Also when the replacement core support was installed it overlapped with pieces from the original making it extremely difficult to remove! In the background is the replacement panel from Dynacorn.  More to come!

Ford Motorcraft

This past weekend, my lovely bride invited me to join her and go to an estate sale. While she was perusing the contents of the kitchen, I made a bee-line for the garage.  There I found this vintage Motorcraft spark plug boot puller for a mere $2.50. Heck, I didn't even haggle with them!  The metal part slips over the boot and keeps the filament inside the boot from separating - sometimes that happens when using just a pair of pliers. The best part was when an unidentified patron exclaimed loudly, "Who on earth works on cars this day and age??" To whence my wife properly checked said patron and berated her about the head and shoulders educating the patron on the values of proper car maintenance and repair. Thank you Bebe, and thanks for the tools!  Now I'm off to change some spark plugs!

Don't You Just Love A Garage Sale?

Recently I answered an ad in the paper from a guy that was cleaning out his garage, seemed that he had a couple of projects cars that he restored over the years.  Pictured above is a Deluxe Decor (Pony Interior) seat belt for a '65 Ford Mustang.  This was thrown in a bucket with a bunch of others.  Price?  $5 per station or $20 for the whole car!  Chrome is in good shape, just needs a little TLC.  I'll stick them in the dishwasher, er I mean parts washer and they will be good as new!!

Pass It On!

The green parts on the front of the Mustang in the photo above may look familiar to some of you - they are parts from my car!  Although these parts may been  banged up, dented or broken in some places - I passed them on to my friend Russell. He was happy to get the parts, rework them and then re-use them for an upcoming Father - Daughter Mustang project.  It's a good reminder to all of us to re-use, recycle or just pass it on to another generation of Mustang fanatics!  Pass it on!
